Bombarded with ads

Ever get the feeling that you are bombarded with ads? From as soon as you wake up in the morning until you go to bed you feel tired and exhausted and this has a lot to do with being bombarded with advertisements. Even this hub has ads.

If you wake up to your radio alarm clock you are being hit by ads when you are in your slumber state of sleep. When you brush your teeth you can’t but help notice the glossy brand name on the side of the toothpaste tube, which is like a big advertisement. When you read your newspaper in the morning and pour your favorite cereal, you are hit with more ads.

This is a result from the commercial world we live in. Everything is for sale and every space is available for advertising.

One of the most magical things that you can do in your life is to take a vacation to escape the commercialism. Take a week off work with your partner and/or children and stay in the country for example. Go to a place where you have to work with animals or to a place where you have to get back to basics, like camping. If you stay in accommodation make sure there is no television.

After a week camping with no television, no radio, no newspapers, no internet and no telephones you will feel so refreshed, you will feel alive!

You don’t have to stay in total isolation as you could go and work on a farm. Learn new and exciting skills like how to saddle a horse or how to milk a cow. Getting away from that entire electronic media will give your life a kick start!

One of the saddest things about going away on a vacation which gets you away from it all is that you have to come back to the monotonous reality of ‘normal’ life. Your first experiences of this will be all the billboards along side the highways and roads which hit you like a fist to the eye.

Hollywood has explored this idea of getting away from digital and analogue media with comedy genres. But however funny or ridiculous the directors have tried to portray these life reversals the underlying statement in the movies do ring true. The moral to these stories are true in the fact that we don’t need all the electronics, commercialism and advertising to run our lives and we would all be much better off without it.

I know what you mean, here in this part of Texas, I have even seen moving billboards going down the interstate. I like your idea.

Oh yes - I especially love how the TV spikes up in volume when the advertising comes on! I can't believe we have no 'quiet' in our society anymore it seems. We go on the internet, ads pop up, we turn on the TV - more ads - we listen to the radio - more ads. Can't we ever just not be bombarded? I guess not! Good points though and clever idea for a hub!

Everywhere you look someone is selling something. It seems like there are more commercials than tv show now. Great hub.

Oh we are in the middle of an election campaign!!! WE ARE SICK of the political ads. Well I am anyway. Ads are a necessary evil, and as someone who has made a living out of writing them, I really shouldn't complain but the political ones are sooooooooo boring! Great hub by the way LJ.

Thanks KoffeeKlatch Gals and MPG Narratives for your comments yeah sometimes you feel like switching off the tv to get some peace from the ads and political ads are frustrating because you are paying for the ads which flood your every day!

Its always funny to me to watch a movie or television show that has the character using a generic product, or one that has the logo blacked out. It seems awkward and unnatural because we are so used to seeing brand names and logos everywhere. But a vacation from it all is a very good idea. I always loved going to Mackinac Island because it seemed frozen in time, but this last year a starbucks made it onto the island. I was livid.

Yeah I do notice when you are watching a reality tv show like "The Amazing Race" or "Big Brother" or even a show like "How I met your mother" and they are wearing plain t-shirts because of advertising restrictions, where as in reality people where their favorite tv t-shirts usually plastered with Nike or Von Dutch etc. I have heard about Mackinac Island, I saw it on a Discovery Channel show called "Dirty Jobs" with Mike Rowe, and he was scraping horse poop, maybe you could do a hub on the island? As always thanks for your thoughful comment M. T. Dremer!
