Homemade Pizza Base Recipe
By LeonJane
How to make a crust stuffed pizza like Pizza Hut has, can be done in a few simple steps. You just need a few ingredients and a little time to make your own homemade pizza base. You will never want to buy pizza again from the likes of Dominos, Pizza Hut or Eagle Boys (unless you have little time on your hands) because nothing tastes as healthy and fresh as home made pizza.
Ingredients
5 cups of Plain Flour
2 pinches of salt
500ml of warm water (2 cups)
2 teaspoons sugar
4 teaspoons of bakers yeast (2 x 7g packets)
Method
Firstly dissolve the sugar in the warm water. Make sure the water is not too hot otherwise you will kill the yeast. Now add the yeast, stir well and set aside for 15 minutes.
Now to a large mixing bowl sift the flour and salt. Make a well in the middle of the flour and slowly add the liquid yeast mixture. Mix this with your hands into dough.
Sprinkle flour onto your kitchen bench/counter top and knead the dough mixture for at least 5 to 10 minutes. Add your dough ball into a covered and oiled bowl. Place this bowl in a warm area (next to your preheating oven if cooking pizza in winter) and let the dough rise for at least 1 hour.
After 1 hour put your risen dough on a floured kitchen bench/counter top and ‘knock’ the air out of it. Knead the dough again for 5 minutes. Split the dough ball into two equal portions and roll each out to make your pizza bases. If using a rolling pin then make sure you flip the dough over regularly as you roll out your round shapes. If you are expanding the dough out into round shapes by twirling the base in the air with your hands, then good luck!
This recipe makes two (2) large pizza bases.
Some notes:
We (in Australia) usually refer to our kitchen counter tops as benches. Also I notice on a few American TV shows/sitcoms that we get here that kitchen counter tops are surfaced with ceramic tiles. If you have these I'd use a kitchen/dining table or large cutting board instead. This way the grout lines of the tiles will not hinder your pizza rolling technique.
With the crust it usually stays in place when I fold it over and press it down onto the pizza base. I brush it with oil so it goes golden brown and does not burn.
Also we find that after two slices we are pretty full, where as with a fast food joint pizza we can easily do half of theirs each. So this pizza is a really healthy dinner idea when compared to Pizza Hut, Eagle Boys or Domino's Pizza etc

you want me to put my dough on my bench? My tool bench or my picnic bench? lol. I had to go back up and see where you were from. :)
My daughter always wants to do stuffed crust but we use kid's string cheese. Have trouble getting the dough to stay stuck though.
Thanks SimeyC
Thanks Randy Behavior, I edited the description to show kitchen bench/counter top. We (in Australia) usually refer to our kitchen counter tops as benches, so I can see your point, :).
