How to develop a Pyramid

How to develop a pyramid or how to create a flat pattern of a pyramid can be achieved in a few easy geometrical steps. I will show you these easy geometrical steps below in an easy to follow method.

Firstly as shown in Figure 1 draw the top view and front view of the pyramid. I have shown the top view as the lower part of the figure, but this does not matter if you place it above or below the front view.

Now from the top view scribe an arc from the outside edge of the pyramid to the centre line of the pyramid as shown in Figure 2.

Transfer this line vertically up to intersect with the baseline of the pyramid in its front view. Now draw a line from this intersection of the baseline to the apex of the pyramid.

You have now drawn the true length line of the pyramid edge.

 Now take this true length line as shown in Figure 4 and the length of the pyramid base as shown in Figure 3 and scribe corresponding arcs as shown in Figure 5. To help with this process mark a center point to start the true length line arc from. Once you have scribed this arc mark another center point along this act as a starting point to scribe your pyramid base line arc from.

Now draw lines in between these intersections to form a triangle. This triangle is one side of the pyramid. See Figure 6 below.

Repeat the above process to form the remaining three sides of the pyramid as shown below in Figure 7.

Now you may need to form the base depending on your application of the development of this pyramid. To develop the base firstly get the diagonal base dimension from your top view with your compass. Scribe this dimension with arcs, as shown in Figure 8,from one of the bases of the pyramid sides.

To complete the pyramid base obtain the length of the side of the pyramid base from the top view. Scribe this dimension as arcs from the same points which you used in the previous step, as shown in Figure 9.

Draw lines between these scribed arcs as shown below in Figure 10.

 There you have it, the flat pattern development of a pyramid.
