Poem: Writer's Block

I stare at this blank page,
"What the hell do I write?"
My brain, withered and sore,
skittish ideas spooked into flight.

.

My head pounds hollow,
"Does this shit have to rhyme?"
That raises more questions,
"Is poetic license a crime?"

.

If a tear saps from my eye
and rolls down my cheek,
to strike this blank page,
would you consider me weak?

.

I dream of linguistic magic
and rainbows of thought.
A frozen nightmare bestows me,
in its web that I'm caught.

.

I shake my head furiously
and bash on my temple.
"Where are all my ideas?"
none when there were ample.

.

I throw this page angrily,
plough my desk in one motion.
My tempest grows wildly,
like a storm in the ocean.

.

I look at my stationary,
strewn across the floor.
Desk and page stare blankly,
as my predicament was before.

.

And when the clouds part,
from my mind thick with grey.
I still have no ideas,
hopefully on another day.

.

Final Note...

This poem is about writer's block. We all suffer from it, from time to time. What do we write about? How do we start?

My answer to combat writers block would be to start off in small steps. Maybe pick up the newspaper and write about one article that gets your attention. Look out the window and write about what you see. Go for a walk in the park or down to the local store and buy something that you have never bought before. Come back to your desk and write about your journey to the park or store, or do a product review on what you bought. Even if you bought some chewing gum or a chocolate bar just write about it. You will find this might spark another idea or help get your words onto the page to prevent your writer's block.

If any of this doesn't help you on how to combat writer's block then just get up and leave your writing for another day. Do this before you destroy your writing area, as described in my poem.

Thanks for reading this poem, let me know what you think.

Like a fake alien sighting in the Amazon rain forest or the great Amazon Alien Hoax sometimes it's hard to come up with good ideas. If you can break away from the bobble headed alien idea, you know, aliens with over sized heads, skinny arms and legs and over sized eyes then your Alien Hoax would be a different and original idea. Try not to copy the Alien hoaxes from around the world like the stupid Amazon alien video where the alien is held up by somebody behind a tree and a fake flashlight glow is added to the video with a movie maker program like Adobe Premier!

Moral of the story; you'll make a lot of cash if you come up with an original fake alien hoax that would seem better than a short few second, grainy film of a blow up doll that looks like the stereotypical alien creature. Get around your writers block by coming up with new alien ideas like the alien idea in Stephenie Meyers, The Host.

I wish that I could hand out a thought.

Alas, my concentration has just come to naught.

Indeed it was only creativity that we sought.

What a blurry head hath this world wrought!

Awesome stuff. You touched on exactly what many of us undergo in the process (or lack thereof) of writer's block. I usually take a walk or a drive and do things that aren't conducive to creativity. Many ideas come to me when I'm NOT trying to come up with an idea (so what a novel idea, haha). Thanks my friend.

Thanks dohn121, glad you liked it. Yeah I know what you mean, sometimes an idea for a poem springs to mind when I am doing something totally unrelated to writing. Thanks for your comment.

Creative writing at it's best. I wrote for about six years then hit the wall. Hub pages has rekindled my hobby and i'm going well at the moment, but still nervously glancing over my shoulder. You are a smart cookie as they say. Great hub!
