Should I get that Tattoo?

By

If you are going to get a tattoo or a series of tattoo’s than you should spend some time considering all your options on the type of artwork that you will mark your body with. Should I get that tattoo? This is one of the most important questions that you can ask yourself. What looks cool today may not look so cool in twenty years time.

If you have a particular design in mind than do all the research that you can on that particular design. There may by better alternatives or better renditions of that particular piece of artwork. Also don’t just waltz into the first tattoo parlor that you see, bare your skin and get what looks cool on the wall. You should try to visit as many as you can, flip through their art books and scan their wall. Don’t settle on a particular design until you go home and do some more research.

If you think that you are going to impress your friends with a cool or funny design, than think to yourself, will you have these friends in twenty to thirty years time. Will this be a sad reminder of who I was trying to impress at the time?

Tattoo’s of famous people or characters will date quicker than your wallpapered lounge room.

Do you really want to put your girlfriend or boyfriends initials on your skin? Could you change the initials if you broke up or separated from your partner? Tattoos are permanent and even though you can get them removed by lasers you will always have the shadow effect from the scarring.

Treat your body like a temple, and adorn the walls with well thought out “inscriptions” that complement and honor your body. Remember how cool the sketches and drawings that you made through your high school notebooks were? I bet if you went back and looked at them now, you would probably laugh at how bad they really are. Don’t treat your body like a doodle pad!

The following gallery shows examples of tattoo’s that I believe the owners of did not ask themselves, Should I get that tattoo?

How long do I have to hold this pose for to make my tattoo design effective?

No armpit hair here, just a 'lovely' little tattoo.

Star Wars tattoo design that George Lucas would be proud of!

"A shark ate my baby"

Yeah I'd be this surprised to make it as an armpit tattoo.

That is quite a funny idea for arm pit hair, but really?, do you want this for the rest of your life?

Camel Toe Tattoo design anyone?

This one looks like Simon Cowell from American Idol and X Factor, but somehow I don't think it is really Simon Cowell. Maybe some dude called Edward, and not the vampire character Edward from Stephanie Meyer's Twilight series.

This is a Chinese Crested Hairless, (Not a Chinese Crested Powder Puff) displaying a tattoo on its rump. And NO, you should definitely not get any tattoo for your pets. This is animal cruelty. They have no choice, as you have a choice how to modify your body. You should not get that tattoo for your pet.

WTF, I bet a lot of care and attention to detail came into play when this beauty was picked out, marked up and then tattoo onto this guys arm. Now is that a pregnant grub taking a dump or a green turd trying to free itself from the toilet?

Novel idea for a guys nipple! Looks like a bee stung her tit! Bet it impresses all the lovely ladies!

Yep, I will have that tattoo, the one where the guy is picking his nose. My mates will love the ageless beauty of it!

Aren't most things made in China these days? Even great tattoo's to display across your lower back!

Should I get that ass tattoo? Yeah why not, it looks cute and amazing when you have a young hot body. But hey when you are middle aged with a few childern under your wing, that butterfly will look even better stretched across your ass!

Etch a Sketch tattoo design, what a novel idea! But I am afraid, no matter how hard you shake, that you will never be able to change that sketch.

Who would have thought of this one for a lower back tattoo design. 'Exit Only', I guess she has that one covered.

This tattoo design would be great for traveling on an airplane, especially now since the introduction of full body scanners and x-ray machines.

You know what, it is a catchy tune!

Um, not sure if I can see the resemblance here.

Watch out ladies, my tattoo tongue might get ya!

Hmm, this tattoo nutty enough for you?

"My tattoo is better than yours!"

If you have been 'wrestling' about the right tattoo design to get, then make sure you take more time to decide correctly. The time you spend thinking about the right tattoo design might save you ridicule and heart ache in the future.

is that one on the dog real? not nice at all!

LeonJane 2 years ago

Yeah bat115, it looks real, sad that the owners thought it needed a tattoo. Wonder how the owners held the dog still while it was getting the injections for this quite large tattoo?

chicdianne 2 years ago

Its a form of an art in the body that I would never apply to myself..

better seein me that neat..

poor dog.. got that tatoo...

but I thinks the tatooed dogs ROCKS!

LeonJane 2 years ago

Thanks chicdianne, yes poor dog.

luv.poem 2 years ago

You have made many valid points in this hub. I also agree that some of these are outrageous tattoos but I was wondering why you don't like the dandelion one? I feel like there could be some good meaning behind wishes blowing away like that.

luv.poem 2 years ago

...clicked twice sorry!

LeonJane 2 years ago

Hi luv.poem, I guess the dandelion tattoo looks cool, kind of sexy in a way, on that body, but imagine if she gets pregnant or puts on a little weight in middle age? The cute little dandelion would stretch into a full blown dandelion patch!

luv.poem 2 years ago

hahaha! Very true! I always forget about that because I don't want biological children so it was never a factor when I got mine.

Crystyne 2 years ago

Wow what's with armpit tattoos? How could that possibly be appealing? Yeesh.

LeonJane 2 years ago

I hear what you are saying Crystyne, maybe the appeal is that the armpit tattoo is hidden until you raise your arm? But some of these armpit tattoos are quite large and you would still see evidence of them with your arms down.

. That really summed up a great hub. Some of these are horrendous.!. "Don't treat your body like a doodle pad."

LeonJane 2 years ago

Yeah thanks Dim Flaxenwick, some of these tattoos are crazy. If only you could erase the doodle diagrams on your body like an etch-a-sketch!

theherbivorehippi 2 years ago

Some of these hilarious and some are just frightening. lol. That dog one is horrible! i hope that is not real. I not only hope that the owner didn't cause this dog pain but I would hope that the tattooist would not do such a thing.

LeonJane 2 years ago

Thanks for your comment theherbivorehippi, yeah I agree some of these tattoos are hilarious and some are scarey! Not sure on the dog tattoo but it looks real and painful enough.

Tiara 12 months ago

That is a Chinese Crested hairless NOT a powder puff as stated. The tattoos are real and In Cali have become extremely popular on hairless breeds such as the Chinese crested dog and the sphynx cat.

It is cruel....

LeonJane 12 months ago

Thanks Tiara I have corrected my mistake, It is a Chinese Crested Hairless and not a Chinese Crested Powder Puff!
